Victoria Leisure Centre open for business
Earlier
this year it was proposed that Victoria Leisure Centre in Sneinton Market Place be closed as part of
an £18.5 million Leisure Centre Transformation Programme to provide fewer but better quality community
leisure centres across the City.
In March, following an extensive exercise
where residents were invited to tell us their views about the proposals and local campaigning, it was
decided that instead of permanently closing the facility, the Council would commit to replacing the
old centre with a new swimming pool, that would form part of the major redevelopment scheme for the
Sneinton Market and Eastside area.
The Council is now collaborating with the
Victoria Leisure Centre Working Group (comprising Nottingham City Councillors, the Save Victoria Baths
campaign, the St Ann’s and Dales Area Committee, local residents and representatives of other local
groups) to develop plans for the new facility.
Although Victoria
Leisure Centre will eventually have to close to allow the new swimming pool to be built, the Centre
is currently open for business as usual.
