Whether you are looking for fitness or fun, swimming has it all! We have eight pools across the city where you can enjoy a swim and we offer a varied programme of swimming activities to suit all ages and abilities.

There is something for everyone such as antenatal classes to parent and toddler, fun sessions with inflatables, adult only, over 50s, early morning swims and family fun swims.Get in the swim with our family ticket where two adults and three children can swim for just £6.75.

Swim Plan – Swimming Lessons

Nottingham City Council is committed to providing opportunities for everyone in the community to learn to swim in a safe environment
The Nottingham City Swim Plan is a professional and co-ordinated programme.
Swimmers can progress from beginner to advanced levels and are taught in manageable classes.
There are many courses on offer at swimming pools throughout the city and we aim to make each one a pleasurable experience.
We welcome people with disabilities.
All swimming courses run for 11 weeks which includes 1 week put aside for parents to discuss the progression and development of their child on the Swim Plan.

Ducklings

Splash Class

  • Under 5s

Objectives

  • To introduce the child to water on his/her own and more formal teaching techniques.

Otters

  • 5-13 years

Beginners
Objectives

  • Develop confidence in and around water
  • Learn floating techniques
  • Introduce methods of propulsion
  • Develop enjoyment in an aquatic environment.
  • Swim 5 metres without flotation aids.

Improvers 1
Objectives

  • Develop confidence and water skills
  • Learn basic floats:Front,Back,Mushroom
  • Recover objects from the pool floor
  • Swim 10m on the front and back
  • Develop methods of propulsion
  • Introduce techniques of sculling.

Improvers 2
Objectives

  • Swim 25m on the front
  • Swim 25m on the back,full stroke
  • Introduce surface diving and underwater swimming techniques
  • Recover objects from the pool floor (one metre depth)
  • Develop sculling techniques
  • Introduce techniques for treading water.

Dolphins

  • 5-15 years

Intermediate
Objectives

  • Swim two recognisable strokes for a minimum of 50m each
  • Introduce the butterfly stroke
  • Introduce early diving practices
  • Develop techniques of treading water
  • Develop methods of surface diving (head and feet first)
  • Develop sculling techniques (head first, feet first, stationary).

Advanced
Objectives

  • Develop technical ability in three major strokes
  • Introduce starts and turns
  • Swim the three major strokes for a minimum distance of 100m
  • Develop the butterfly stroke
  • Recover object from the pool floor using head and feet first surface dives
  • Develop early diving skills (where pool depth allows)
  • Continued development of aqua skills.

Challenge
Objectives

  • Continued development of the major strokes (inc. butterfly)
  • Introduce survival swimming (wearing clothes)
  • Introduce synchro
  • Introduce water polo
  • Introduce life saving
  • Introduce techniques for treading water

Specialist Link Classes

Link classes enable swimmers to progress to joining numerous clubs in the City by teaching the basics of diving, synchronised swimming, water polo, survival swimming/life saving and swim training.There are opportunities to gain a variety of awards.

Holiday Crash Courses

School holiday crash courses are available at most sites across the City.

Award Scheme

Awards in the Nottingham City Swim Plan are issued by Nottingham City Council and the Amateur Swimming Association, the National Governing Body for swimming in the UK. Both schemes recognise the importance of water skills, stroke technique, personal survival skills and distance swimming.
