The
Museum of Nottingham Life at Brewhouse Yard - Bank Holiday Monday 7 May
The
first event of the Veteran's Day celebration programme was a fantastic success.
The Bank Holiday Monday event saw visitors step back in time at
The Museum of Nottingham Life at Brewhouse Yard to experience the atmosphere and sounds of the
1940s war years.
They relived the events of over 60 years ago, with swing dancing, old
fashioned street games and even an appearance by Winston Churchill! The day was a unique and memorable
experience for people of all ages.
Visitors joined in with a sing along of the songs that helped to keep
spirits up when times were tough and enjoyed a vast array of memorabilia including wedding dresses and
cars.
There was even the opportunity to purchase original 1940s wear.
It was a great event for children, who were kept amused as they set
to work on washing chores using traditional Dolly tubs, or tried their hand at making utility dolls
and kites. As a treat they even exchanged ration cards for authentic 1940s sweets at the Grocers!
