What can the Council tell a landlord?

The Local Authority is required to operate within the Data Protection Act and therefore can only disclose information to those that are entitled to receive it. As a landlord the Local Authority can disclose the information when your tenant has;

  • Signed the consent box on the Housing Benefit claim form

Or

  • Completed and signed our Authority to Disclose form

Or

  • Written to the Housing Benefit service authorising disclosure of information to you about their claim

When authority to disclose information is held the Local Authority can tell you:

  • Details of the Housing Benefit Award
  • Frequency of payment

It cannot tell you

  • Personal details about the tenant including:
  • Household details
  • Employment details
  • Income or expenditure details

You can obtain supplies of the Housing Benefit form and the disclosure form by contacting:
