
If you have difficulties caused by disability or long-term health problems, you
may be able to apply for this grant known as the Disabled Facilities
Grant. It is designed to improve access to the facilities in your property
and therefore improve your quality of life. You will need to be assessed by an Occupational Therapist
to determine the level and type of works needed to your property.

The following apply to this scheme:
- applications are dealt with on a priority basis
- the grant is available to owner-occupiers and private tenants
- you will be means tested which means you may have to pay something towards the cost
- certain works are mandatory (ie: the Council must make the grant available)
- the maximum amount of grant is £25,000
Examples
include:
- ramps and paths
- level access showers
- stairlifts
- door widening for wheelchair access

If you want to apply for adaptations to your property you will need to contact one
of the following as appropriate:
- the Occupational Therapy Section at Social Services on 915 0439/0440/0496
- the Childrens Health & Disability Team at Social Services on 915 1016
An
assessment will then be carried out to determine the level and type of adaptations that can be carried
out in your circumstances.
