Information on the Surveillance and Monitoring Service

This information is for residents of Nottingham City Council high-rise blocks of flats.

What is the Surveillance and Monitoring Service?

We provide a Surveillance and Monitoring Service to Nottingham City Council high-rise blocks of flats.  This service uses closed circuit television (CCTV) cameras to monitor the block from a central control room which is staffed 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.

We are not a ‘Security Service’.  We rely on other agencies, such as the Police, to carry out arrests and other enforcement activities.

What duties does the Surveillance & Monitoring Service carry out?

• We monitor the CCTV cameras in high-rise blocks 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year.
• We take calls on the door entry system from residents and visitors, assisting where appropriate.
• We use the public address system to challenge people who are misbehaving within the block.
• Our mobile patrol officer checks the block on a regular basis, particularly in areas where there are no cameras such as fire escape stairs.
• We send our mobile patrol officer to respond to noise complaints and request people to reduce the noise they are creating when a noise complaint is received.
• Our mobile patrol staff will also attend the site to request people who are causing a nuisance to leave the block.
• We contact the emergency services to respond to an emergency and assist them as appropriate.  
• We provide evidence to the relevant enforcement agencies to secure convictions and ASBOs.  
• We work with Nottingham City Homes to take firm action against anti-social behaviour and send all incident and noise complaint reports to the local housing offices for action by the housing office team.
• We provide a repairs service for the CCTV and intercom systems.  We will endeavour to repair your intercom system within 5 working days. Please report any faults to the Housing Repairs call centre on 0115 915 2222.
