Deaf Services Homecare Team

Deaf Services Home Care Team

The Deaf Services Home Care Team has one difference to the other Home Care teams: they provide a service to Deaf children as well as Deaf adults. The Team employs a mixture of deaf and hearing staff with the aim to provide a culturally and linguistically appropriate Home Care Service to profoundly Deaf People.

The philosophy of Deaf Services recognises and fully respects individuality and diversity and aims to enable Deaf people to reach their full potential to be as independent as possible. By adopting a person centred approach, Home Care Workers support Deaf people to lead as full a life as possible in all aspects of daily living.

The service recognises and values British Sign Language as a language in its own right and also the existence and importance of Deaf Culture. The Home Care Service is provided by Home Care Workers who have communication skills with Deaf people and who have specialist knowledge of Deaf culture and Deaf issues.
