Healthier Communities in Nottingham
Nottingham has particular challenges due to the high levels of deprivation faced by many of its residents, which result in some of the lowest life expectancy figures in the country (73.3 for males and 79 for females) as detailed in the Public Health Report 2005.
However, through effective partnership working between Nottingham City Council (NCC), Nottingham City Primary Care Trust (PCT), Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Services, local businesses and the voluntary and community sectors, a robust strategic approach has been adopted to tackling the wider determinants of health and we are beginning to see improvements.
In 2005, there was a 14% fall in heart disease death rates and a 12% drop in cancer death rates (equivalent to 100 fewer deaths in 2004).
