Fairer Charging - Examples

Fairer Charging - Examples of how Home Care charges are calculated

Scenario 1
Service user ‘A’ receives 10 hours of Home Care per week and has been assessed as having Total Chargeable Income (T.C.I) of £80.00 per week.

Cost of services is 10hrs x £8.50 / hour = £85.00
The maximum charge for Home Care is £75.00 per week.
Therefore the charge to the service user is £75.00 per week.

Scenario 2
Service user ‘B’ receives 2 hours of Home Care and like service user ‘A’ has been assessed as having ‘T.C.I’ of £80.00 per week.

Cost of services is 2hrs x £8.50 / hour = £17.00
Therefore the charge to the service user is £17.00 per week.

N.B. The £17.00 charge for the 2 hours of Home Care is less than the service user’s ‘T.C.I’ and below the maximum charge of £75.00 per week.

Scenario 3
Service user ‘C’ receives 8 hours of Home Care and has been assessed as having ‘T.C.I’ of £12.00 per week.

Cost of services is 8hrs x £8.50 / hour = £68.00
Therefore the charge to the service user is £12.00 per week.

N.B. The service user in this scenario cannot afford to pay more than £12.00 per week for their Home Care services.

Scenario 4
Service user ‘D’ receives 1 hour of home care per week and like service user ‘C’ has been assessed as having ‘T.C.I’ of £12.00 per week.

Cost of services is 1hr x £8.50 / hour = £8.50
Therefore the charge to the service user is £8.50 per week.

N.B. The charge is £8.50 despite the amount of T.C.I because only I hour of home care is received.

Scenario 5
Service user ‘E’ receives 10 hours of home care per week and has been assessed as having a T.C.I of £0.00 i.e. unable to contribute towards the cost of home care provided.

Cost of services is 10hrs x £8.50 / hour = £85.00
No charge.

Scenario 6
Service user ‘F’ receives 10 hours of home care per week and has savings in excess of £22,250

Cost of services is 10hrs x £8.50 / hour = £85.00
The maximum charge for home care is £75.00 per week.

Therefore the charge to the service user is £75.00 per week.

Scenario 7
Service user ‘G’ receives 2 hours of home care per week and has savings in excess of £22,250

Cost of services is 2hrs x £8.50 / hour = £17.00
Therefore the charge to the service user is £17.00 per week.

Scenario 8
Service user ‘H’ receives 7 hours of home care per week and has declined to have a financial assessment.

Cost of services is 7hrs x £8.50 / hour = £59.50
Therefore the charge to the service user is £59.50 per week
