Street Scene - performance
Street Scene compares its performance with other cities in the country. Nottingham is the fourth cleanest city in England.
Street Scene will report results of customer surveys.
Graffiti
Graffiti is a problem in all cities. Residents in Nottingham have said that graffiti affects the quality of their local environment.
In response the City Council has set up four teams to work city wide and one in the city centre to work full time to remove graffiti.
Any racist graffiti is removed within 24 hours all other graffiti is removed as soon as possible. Graffiti teams are proactive and remove graffiti when hey see as they see it.
Nottingham City Council is working in partnership with Virgin Media and Network Rail to help at problem sites.
During this year’s Big Spring Clean, cleansing teams removed 14,548 square metres of graffiti, compared to 2,400 square metres during the Big Spring Clean in 2006.

Fly-posting
Fly-posting was a major problem, but working in partnership with the Enviro Crime team, 99% of streets are now free of fly-posting.
Fly-posting drums have been put in place in the City Centre to provide a space for legitimate fly-posting advertising. These are managed by the Enviro Crime team.

Fly-tipping
Fly-tipping has become a more serious problem recently due in part to changes in legislation, including tipping charges at landfill sites. To help address this Nottingham City Council has allocated more resources to the removal of fly-tipped waste.
Street Scene have set up Neighbourhood Environmental Action Teams (NEAT) to address the environmental issues that affect local communities, remove reported fly-tips and proactively remove tips they see as they travel around the city.
In addition Nottingham City Council’s highly visible Community Protection Officers regularly patrol neighbourhoods on foot and report incidents of fly-tipping.
Offenders who are caught and prosecuted can be required to pay full clean up costs for removing the waste as well as receiving a fine of up to £50,000 and up to five years imprisonment.
If an area is continually used for fly-tipping, the City Council have sophisticated technology which allows us to carry out surveillance. This technology along with a dedicated team of enforcement officers, has led to excellent results with prosecutions successfully achieved.
During neighbourhood ‘Weeks of Action’, campaigns such as the Big Spring Clean, and community clean ups, the City Council invites members of the public to put our any unwanted materials and this has helped reduce illegal tipping
Nottingham City Council is currently working with key partner such as the Crime & Drug Partnership and One Nottingham to develop an action plan to help address the problem.
