Local Plan

What's this?
The Nottingham Local Plan (adopted November 2005) is the current Statutory Local Plan for the City of Nottingham and provides the basis for decisions related to land use planning. The Nottingham Local Plan was produced as part of the old planning system and will be 'saved' until it is replaced by the emerging Local Development Framework.

Background

The Nottingham Local Plan November 2005 adoption and publication:
The Nottingham Local Plan Review was adopted by Nottingham City Council on 28th November 2005. It is now called the ‘Nottingham Local Plan’.  A notice of adoption was advertised in the London Gazette and the Nottingham Evening Post on 2nd December, and on 9th December, 2005, following which a legal challenge was submitted to the High Court.  This challenge has now been resolved.  The text of the Nottingham Local Plan and  the updated proposals map can be downloaded by clicking on the links below.  Alternatively all documents can  be viewed at the City Council's Environment & Regeneration Department, Exchange Buildings North, Smithy Row, Nottingham, NG1 2BS.

Hard copies of the plan are available for purchase at a price of £45.00 plus £3.00 postage and packaging for both the Plan and Proposals Maps, the Proposals Maps are available separately at a price of £15.00 plus £1.00 postage and packaging. Please contact a member of the Policy and Information Team using the contact details at the bottom of this page to order a copy.

Updated Sites of Interest for Nature Conservation:
Sites of Interest for Nature Conservation (SINCs) are determined independently of the Local Plan. They are identified by the Nottingham Biological and Geological Records Centre (NBGRC) using criteria set by an independent panel of experts (the SINC Panel).  Data is collected from museum field surveyors and local and national expert naturalists and the designation is made by the SINC Panel.

The Nottingham Local Plan Proposals Map shows the Biological and Geological SINCs as identified at the time of the Revised Deposit Draft of the Nottingham Local Plan Review (Jan 2003) which formed the basis for the public inquiry, consideration by the Planning Inspector and adoption by the City Council.

Since then a significant review of the SINCs in Nottingham City has taken place, superseding some of the information shown on the Proposals Map.

As the designation of SINCs is not related to the timescale of the planning process, and as the Local Plan Proposals Map cannot be updated, there is a need to separately identify the current extent of SINCs within Nottingham City.

The City Council’s online mapping system (NOMAD), displays the most up-to-date representation of the SINCs in Nottingham and the date these were last updated.  Click here to link to NOMAD

Adopted Proposals Map

The Proposals Map identifies areas of protection and locations and sites to which particular land use and development proposals and policies apply.

The Adopted Proposal Map can be downloaded using the links below.

Addendum to the Nottingham Local Plan:

Since the publication of the Local Plan it has been identified that there was an error on the Proposals Map South Sheet.  The boundary of the Sneinton Conservation Area as shown on the Proposals Map South Sheet is incorrect.  The true boundary of the Sneinton Conservation Area is as shown on the addendum below, which should be read in conjunction with the Local Plan.

Current Stage

Under the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, unless expressly replaced by a “new” policy (in the LDF), “old” policies (adopted local plan, unitary development plan and structure plan policies) are saved for 3 years from whichever is the later of:

  • the date of commencement of the Planning & Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 on 28th September 2004 or
  • the date of the adoption of the Local Plan.

Nottingham Local Plan was adopted in November 2005 and therefore the policies contained within the plan are saved in their entirety until November 2008.

Policies in plans that are automatically saved for 3 years from the date of adoption can be saved for a further period by applying to the Government Office 6 months before their expiration date. We are therefore currently working through the policies in the Nottingham Local Plan to decide which policies we wish to continue to save after November 2008. We will then apply to the Government Office East Midlands in May 2008, to save these policies.
