Nottingham City Council produces a variety of additional planning guidance and advice which can be accessed via the links on the left.

Supplementary Planning Documents (SPD) - these documents expand or add details to policies laid out in development plan documents, or a saved policy in an existing development plan. These documents provide additional detail to the policies contained in the Nottingham Local Plan 2006 or Development Plan Documents. They are a 'material' consideration when planning applications are decided

Supplementary Planning Guidance- Development Briefs- these documents provide site and area-specific advice and guidance to inform proposals for the future development of various sites around the city. The briefs are an important consideration when considering planning applications relating to those sites.

Other Supplementary Planning Guidance- We have produced a wide variety of guidance on various planning issues. The extent to which a proposed development complies or conflicts with Supplementary Planning Guidance is an important consideration when making decisions on applications for planning permission.

Government Publications- The Department for Communities and Local Government is the government department that is responsible for planning at a national level. It has produced a number of useful publications which can be viewed on line.

Conservation Area Appraisals- We are in the process of carrying out detailed studies of all the conservation areas within the City. The draft and final appraisals can be viewed here. You can also view older conservation area policy documents.

East Midlands Planning Aid Service - The Planning System can be complex for non professionals.  The East Midlands Planning Aid Service Offers free, independent and professional advice on planning issues for community groups and individuals who cannot afford to pay a planning consultant.  Planning Aid is part of the Royal Town Planning Institute (registered charity number 262865).
