Track Application Progress

The Council produces a report showing key dates in the planning application process. If you have submitted a planning or other application to the Council or are interested in the progress of a specific case you can view the most recent status of the case in the progress report. This report is updated daily, and is produced automatically in pdf format (the date and time of the current report are shown at the top of the report.).  The report size varies depending on the volume of cases that we are currently handling, although it is typically around 700kb.

Notes

The system provides monitoring information on undetermined planning applications submitted since 1 January 2000. Key date information is available for current applications that are still being considered by the Council and for cases decided in the previous 28 days. Information about older applications and cases that have already been decided can be found using the main search facility. Click here to access the main application search page.

About the Status Information

The report shows various key dates depending on the current progress of an application, summarised below:

  • Date Application Received- The date on which we receive the application.
  • Date More Information Requested- If we do not have sufficient information to consider an application we will write to the applicant or agent. This date is the date of the letter requesting that information.
  • Date Application Valid- If we have enough information to determine the application as originally submitted this will be the same date as the date of receipt. Otherwise it will be the date on which we receive any additional information.
  • Target Decision Date- The date by which we should take a decision on the application, usually eight weeks from the date application valid.
  • Date Published on Weekly List- On Friday each week we publish a list of applications received in the previous seven days. Once an application appears on the weekly list it is usually possible to view the application documents on line, and the report section for that case includes a web address where the documents can be viewed. You can copy and paste the link to the documents into the address bar of your browser.
  • Date Neighbour Notifications Sent- For most applications for planning permission we sent letters to the occupiers of neighbouring property inviting their comments on the application. Neighbours are usually given at least 21 days to make comments. Please note that for certain application types, such as applications to carry out works to trees and applications for advertisement consent, we do not normally notify neighbours.
  • Date Site Notice Posted- Most applications are publicised by individual letters to neighbours and so do not require a site notice. However, if one has been displayed the date should be recorded here.
  • Consultation Period Expiry- Any observations or representations from interested parties should be received by this date. In practice it is sometimes possible for representations to be taken into account if submitted after this date. You are advised to contact the case officer for more information in relation to any specific case.
  • Date of Officer Site Visit- A planning Officer will visit all sites of applications for planning permission, and record the date of the visit here.
  • Date of Development Control Committee- By far the majority of all applications are dealt with by planning officers under delegated powers. However, where a case is to be determined by the Development Control Committee the date is listed here.
  • Date of Decision- The date on which the decision notice is prepared.
  • Date Decision Issued- The date on which the final decision is dispatched. Once a decision is dispatched the details of the decision are listed in the report. The decision notice, and any associated conditions or reasons for refusal can be viewed on line via the case file link shortly after the decision is issued.

Dates for the events set out above are only shown where they have been entered into our database. If you are concerned that no date is showing for one or more of the key events in the life of a particular application please contact the officer for the case, or the general planning advice line on 0115 9155426.
