How are Sites of Importance for Nature Conservation chosen?

SINCs in Nottinghamshire are selected by applying a set of criteria based on the number of characteristic species present. The criteria are drawn up using the expertise the SINC Panel who are some of the county’s most experienced and knowledgeable naturalists with many the recorders for a particular group.

Information on sites is gathered from a range of sources including targeted phase 2 site surveys, the Nottinghamshire Wildlife Audit 1996-1998 phase 1 and specialist recorders.
