Food Hygiene Golden Rules
- Always wash your hands before handling
food and after using the toilet.
- Always
remove nail varnish and
jewellery before handling food and keep the nails short.
- Always
ensure cuts and sores are covered with brightly coloured and waterproof dressings and change them frequently
- Always
keep yourself clean, wear clean, washable light coloured overclothes and keep your hair covered
- Never
handle food if you have any skin, nose, throat or bowel trouble.
- Never
cough or sneeze over food.
- Always
clean as you go, wipe up any
spills straight away. Thoroughly clean at the end of each meal service and regularly carry out in-depth
cleaning of all areas.
- Always
prepare raw and
cooked food in separate areas. Keep food covered and either refrigerated or piping hot.
- Always
use tongs, spoons etc, when handling food rather than your fingers.
- Always
dispose of waste food promptly. Keep the lid on the bin and wash your hands after handling waste.
- Carry
out regular checks for signs of rodent or insect infestation.
- Do
not smoke in a food room. It is illegal and dangerous.
