We
respond to complaints about food bought from or sold by a business in the City of Nottingham.
A
clear and published complaints procedure seeks to satisfy complainants that matters they feel strongly
about are thoroughly investigated by experts in food safety.
Where
improvements to improve hygiene are identified during the investigation we ensure that these are brought
to the attention of the business proprietor and that the law is complied with.
The
problems that can arise with food are usually because of faults during food handling or storage, or
naturally occurring faults. These can be
Physical
-
pieces of wood, plastic, metal, insects, building materials, personal items, etc;
Chemical
- cleaning fluids, pesticides, naturally occurring toxic chemicals, etc;
Microbiological
- bacteria and germs from dirt and other sources including people and animals;
Spoilage
- mould, slime, colour changes, changes in texture, etc;
General
quality - out of date food, incorrect weight, wrong measures, false labels, etc. Wrong
measures and false labels are normally dealt with by Trading Standards who can be contacted at: trading.standards@nottinghamcity.gov.uk
