Advice for food businesses

The law requires that most food businesses are registered with the council for the area in which the business trades. Registration is free, quick and simple - View the application form Adobe PDF document icon

Registration tells the Food Safety Officer that the business exists and gives the opportunity for the officer and business proprietor to meet and check conditions and discuss the hygiene and safety legal standards that apply.

It is at this meeting that much free advice and guidance can be given by the officer. There are many free leaflets and booklets that will help proprietors to not only keep within the law but also to provide a quality service to their customers. After all, no one wants to buy poor quality food that might be cause food poisoning from untrained food handlers working in dirty food premises.

For more information follow the link to the Food Standards Agency website.

The advice and guidance is also free to the public who want to know more about our work, but due to our stock levels and workload we cannot provide multiple copies of documents and cannot provide information for students as part of their coursework.
