The Food Safety Enforcement team provide services to local citizens and to businesses in the retail, catering, residential and wholesale industry:
- Legal compliance inspections for food safety and food hygiene purposes
- Legal compliance inspections for health, safety and welfare at work in food businesses
- Good practice advice and guidance on food related matters
- Investigation and control of food borne illness such as food poisoning;
- Sampling of food and drinking water for safety and wholesomeness
- Training of food workers in good practice and legal compliance when handling food
Each year we:
- Inspect 1,500 food businesses
- Receive around 1,700 requests for service and over 10,000 telephone calls
- Investigate over 300 accidents and food poisoning incidents
- Take over 150 food & water samples
We do all of this across 3,000 local food businesses, 279,000 city residents and 3 million city visitors per year.
