Enviro-Crime

Nottingham City Council, Nottinghamshire Police and the Local Strategic Partnership set about embarking on a major offensive to make Nottingham a cleaner and safer place by addressing nuisance and street crimes.

As a result, 2004 saw the launch of the 'Respect For Nottingham' initiative. Part of this initiative involved the establishment of an Environmental Crime Team within the Public Health Section in City Development.

The team consists of

  • Two Enforcement Officers dealing specifically with section 215 of the Town and County Planning Act 1990,
  • A senior enforcement officer and four enforcement officers tackling the distribution of free printed material, fly-posting, fly-tipping, littering and graffiti issues and the development of enforcement policy in these areas.
  • A Fixed Penalty Notice Administrator

The overall aims of the team are to take appropriate action to remove the environmental eyesores that damage the City's appearance. To do this the team work closely with Neighbourhood Services and the Neighbourhood Wardens

The team deal with the following issues:

As part of their enforcement activity they utilise covert surveillance equipment at identified 'hot spots' in their attempts to catch perpetrators of environmental crimes.

Members of the team along with Community Protection Officers (neighbourhood wardens) also issue fixed penalty notices for dog fouling, fly-posting, graffiti, and littering.

If you witness or have information that could lead to action against the perpetrators of Enviro-Crime  you should make a note of:

  • details of any vehicle invoved, especially the registration number
  • descriptions of the people involved
  • the time and date of the incident
  • the location type and amount of waste

Do not approach anyone responsible or put yourself at risk in any way.

If you wish to report a problem please call the team on 0115 9156170.
