Rubbish dumping

Piles of rubbish may contain material that could attract flies, vermin, and dangerous substances or may be causing obnoxious smells. We investigate refuse, which has been dumped in gardens and land.Image of dumped rubbish

We will take action on the occupier or owner of the land to get the rubbish removed.

Fly tipping is a commonly used term for rubbish that is illegally deposited on land without permission from the landowners or without a license to allow the deposits of waste. Complaints of fly tipping are investigated by enforcement officers in the Public health team.

Alleyways

The dumping of rubbish in entries or alleyways causes several problems. The removal of this rubbish is the responsibility of all the occupants who have access to the alleyway, regardless of who dumped the rubbish in the first place. If we arrange for the rubbish to be removed, the occupants of each property that has access to the alleyway will be charged for these works plus any administrative costs incurred.

To report an accumulation of refuse contact Public Health or submit a service request form.

The City Council provides a special refuse collection service for large or bulky items; these can also be taken to the local civic amenity site. For rubbish dumped on the highway contact Nottingham City Contract Works Hotline Telephone: 0115 915 2000.
