Public Bus Services and Tram Services

Public bus and tram services pass nearby to every secondary school in the City of Nottingham. Bus and tram operators offer discounted tickets to children aged under 16 years, some of which can be bought in advance via the internet or in person at local travel centres.

For those pupils who qualify for free travel assistance, the Council will normally supply an Nottingham City Transport (NCT) bus pass which allows the user to travel free of charge on any NCT bus or NET tram service, between 7am and 6pm on school days only.

Dedicated School Buses

The Council also operate a small number of dedicated contract school buses. These are normally only provided where there are no direct bus services, or to increase peak time school travel capacity to areas where the local public transport network is overloaded. These services only operate one inward journey during the morning peak time and one return journey home at the end of the school day. Qualifying pupils are issued with a City Council Boarding Card, which can only be used on this specific service and allows the pupil free travel.  

Buying a place on a Dedicated School Bus

Depending on availability the Council may offer seats on these services to non-entitled pupils. The cost of a boarding card is currently £85 per term of £255 per academic year. This works out at about £1.35 per day. To apply for a farepaying space please click on the link below:

Lost or Stolen Passes

If you have been provided with an NCT bus pass by the council and this has been lost or stolen, please report this to the NCT travel centre. They will cancel the existing card and issue a replacement. Please note that a replacement NCT pass will cost £2.00

If you have been issued with a boarding card for a dedicated bus service and this has now been lost or stolen, please click on the link below and complete the bus pass replacement form. Please note a replacement boarding card costs £5.00

Parents should be aware that they will be responsible for providing transport for their child whilst a replacement pass is being processed.
