What are Extended Schools?
Extended schools are an exciting new range of services being developed across Nottingham City.

An Extended School is one that provides a range of services and activities, often beyond the school day, to help meet the needs of pupils, their families and the wider community.

By 2010 we will ensure that all children and families have access to extended services including:

• Childcare
• Adult education
• Leisure and sport activities
• Parenting skills
• ICT facilities
• Study support before and after school and in holidays including homework clubs, creative ventures, sports, games, mentoring, opportunities for volunteering and community service.
• Health and Social Care - schools will offer a wider range of specialist support services including: speech and language therapy; community and mental health services; family support services; behaviour support and sexual health services for young people.

All these activities will not necessarily take place at your child’s school. But your child will be able to access these services at other schools in the local area.

Will my child’s school be an Extended School?
Our aim is that by September 2010 all local authority schools will have Extended Schools status.

Our schools have gathered into extended schools clusters so that, between the schools in the cluster they can offer the full range of services.

We are currently recruting a number of Extended Schools Co-ordinators, who will ensure that services are being delivered in your local area.

How can I get involved?
It is important that Extended Schools are shaped to meet the needs of children, young people, their families & the wider community.

Workshops are taking place in your area to make sure that a package of services is being developed which best meets the needs of your community.
