Background
The Government announced its prospectus on Extended Schools in June 2005 (Extended Schools: Access to opportunities and services for all), building on Every Child Matters and the Five Year Strategy for Children and Young People that sets out the vision that all schools will become Extended Schools over time.
By 2010, all children should have access to a variety of activities beyond the school day. Well-organised, safe and stimulating activities before and after school to provide children and young people with a wider range of experiences and make a real difference to their chances at school.
TDA Remodelling Team
Many schools are already offering out of school activities and childcare and have developed this with limited support. To move this agenda forward and consolidate the range of activities already offered, the Government has asked the TDA (Training Development Agency) to support Local Authorities work with city schools.
In a recent consultation exercise, schools were asked to submit cluster bids of local schools which would form an Extended Schools area, and when they would like to begin the TDA Re-modelling programme. Schools were encouraged to form local clusters to ensure that services could be planned collaboratively and effectively across a geographical area.
Fourteen clusters have so far started the TDA Re-modelling process totalling 110 schools.
The document below shows which schools are at which stage in the process:
