The Ellis Guilford EIP is part of the City-wide EIP strategy and comprises the following schools: Ellis Guilford School and Sports College, Heathfield, Hempshill Hall, Old Basford, Rosslyn Park, Southwark and Whitemoor Primary schools.

Established in October 2006, we are a Reading Connects Partnership aiming to raise standards in education and provide positive learning opportunities for our children, young people and families – in particular we hope our work will inspire a love of reading within our communities.

Projects include:

• Launching our MegaRead project to promote a joy of reading involving Dreadlock Alien, poet Chris White and Jamie Murray, Wimbledon winner and our very own reading champion; working with local Library Services and a range of other reading partners; developing Shakespeare across our schools.
• Enabling schools to work with and support parents through family learning opportunities.
• Working with local services to develop the extended schools agenda for our area, including the YMCA/Ellis Guilford Extreme Holiday Programmes.
• Developing Philosophy for Children and communities of enquiry within our schools to encourage higher level thinking skills.
• Partnerships with the Museums, Libraries and Archives, work with the Holocaust centre at Beth Shalom and also Nottinghamshire Archives.
• Improving transition, including Gradbach residential, shared curriculum projects and Ellis Guilford Experience Days for year 5s.
• Launching our Basford Area Band with some super performances.
• Co-ordinating work with our gifted and talented children including a specialist Sports Academy based at Ellis Guilford Sports Centre.
• Linking with schools in Madrid to develop a global perspective and work towards the International School Award, supported by Spanish language teaching in the classroom.
