Primary Strategy for Change
This is a 14 year programme which aims to ensure that primary schools are fully equipped for the 21st Century, with learning at the heart of the community and with children's services in reach of every family.
The programme will involve the rebuilding, remodelling or refurbishment of at least half of primary schools to ensure that more children can benefit from well-designed classrooms, resources and facilities.
Nottingham City Council has been allocated £18 million of funding over the next 3 years and subject to Government spending reviews is set to continue for the next 14 years.
Following feedback from the Department for Children, Schools and Families (DCSF) in relation to the draft strategy submitted in July 2007, the Council has developed a final version of the strategy which was submitted in June 2008.

Consultation with the whole school community has started in the first three schools that have been identified as priorities for investment to develop each school’s vision for its future.
The Local Education Partnership (LEP) will take on the construction of the new primary schools. Work on the first three schools could start on site at the end of summer 2009 subject to available funding and relevant approvals.
Primary Exemplar Project
Nottingham is one of 23 Pathfinder local authorities identified by the DCSF to:
- Test the longer term structure, systems and monitoring requirements
- Deliver a high quality exemplar project in the city
- Build capacity and share good practice regionally
Southwark Primary School has been identified as the exemplar project. Visioning and consultation meetings have been carried out with parents, pupils and the local community. The LEP is currently working on the designs for the new school and it is hoped that work can start on site in January 2009.
