Working to promote access to education for Gypsies and Travellersin the City of Nottingham area.
The Team provides direct services to Gypsies and Travellers and facilitating access to other agencies and services. We:
- facilitate school and nursery placements;
- work with schools and nurseries to support them in meeting the needs of Gypsies and Travellers;
- work with families to aid them in supporting their children’s learning;
- provide home-school liaison;
- facilitate access to other Health Service providers as well as to other agencies and services.
The Team provides training to staff in Children’s Services, health and other services to promote:
- understanding;
- raise awareness of Gypsy and Traveller communities;
- share and develop good practice in terms of service delivery.
The Nottingham Traveller Team is the core of the Nottingham Gypsy and Traveller Partnership. The Partnership exists to:
- work with Gypsy and Traveller communities;
- address inequalities and inequities;
- facilitate access to services and provision;
- raise awareness;
- improve the quality of services provided;
- empower Gypsy and Traveller communities to access and influence their development.
The Partnership achieves this by bringing together agencies that provide services to Gypsies and Travellers including Victim Support, Connexions and the Racial Equality Council.
