Alan Clark
I was first elected to the Council in 1988.
I held the position of Chair of Tourism from 1991 to 1994, and Chair of Planning and Development Control from 1994 until 2000.
I have also been a professional computer programmer, a Maths teacher, a computing lecturer and a church-community worker. I also work voluntarily as a Methodist local preacher. I have published four books, on using computers and on computer programming.
I came to Nottingham in 1977 to study at the University and loved the place so much I never left.
I seem to have found a particular niche in council work involving all those decisions where you can’t please everybody! I chaired appeals against dismissal for nine years. In this, and in Planning, I enjoyed weighing the evidence and teasing out which are the important factors in a judgement.
I believe in doing all we can to make Nottingham a prosperous city with a range of jobs to meet the needs of our whole community. I also believe we need to be attracting families back to live in a city so that we all benefit from the educational and cultural opportunities that only cities provide.
