The Information Governance Office enforces and oversees Nottingham City Council’s compliance with the following legislation. Use the links on the left for more information on the legislation and for definitions of key terms.
The Data Protection Act 1998 requires anyone who handles personal information to comply with number of important principles regarding privacy and disclosure. It also gives individuals rights over their personal information.
The Freedom of Information Act 2000 deals with access to official information and gives individuals and organisations the right to request information from any public authority.
The Environmental Information Regulations 2004 provide members of the public with and organisations the right to access environmental information held by public authorities in England, Wales and Northern Ireland.
The Re-use of Public Sector Information Regulations 2005 provide a framework for encouraging the re-use of public sector information.
We also ensure that the above Acts are applied in accordance with the Human Rights Act 1998.
