Funeral
services are naturally highly emotive occasions
when everyone concerned wants to ensure that the service goes ahead according to plan and in the manner
they have chosen. There is nothing worse than having to wait around in the precincts of our chapels
whilst, for whatever reason, the previous service over runs its allotted time and as a consequence anxiety
levels increase and the day is remembered for the wrong reasons.
Consultation
with Funeral Directors and Ministers officiating at our Wilford Hill Chapels has indicated that this
aspect of services not starting on time is the one single most cause of concern and distress to bereaved
families.
For many years our timing schedule in the
Main Chapel has been every half hour on the quarter hour and in the West Chapel every half hour on the
hour. In both instances this has allowed 20 minutes for the service and the remaining time has accommodated
entering and leaving the Chapel.
From 1st January 2004 Chapel
times will
allow 40 minutes between services with an expectation that the delays experienced
when the 30 minute
period was in operation will if not completely eliminated, will be greatly minimised.
The
new timings for both Chapels are shown below and when operative anyone who wishes to give us their feed
back/views are certainly encouraged to do so. We also hope that this review and revision of our Chapel
times is another clear indication of Bereavement Services not only seeking customer and users views
but also acting upon them to provide a better enhanced service.
