Nottingham City Council began building links with the City of Ningbo in China in 2004. This follows the University of Nottingham’s highly significant, groundbreaking initiative to establish a new university campus in the city and looks to support and complement the University’s achievements.
A top-level delegation from Ningbo in China visited Nottingham in September 2005 to formalise business and twinning links between the two cities. Mr Shao Xiaojie, vice-chairman of Ningbo’s People’s Congress and Councilllor Jon Collins, leader of Nottingham City Council, signed a sister city agreement which will bring about closer collaboration on trade, educational and cultural affairs.
Since then, a high level delegation from Ningbo has visited Nottingham in May 2006 followed by a return visit to Ningbo by Nottingham City Council members and officers to develop trading, cultural and educational links between the two cities.
