The
House to House Collections
Act 1939 applies
to door to door collections for charitable purposes and may take one of the following forms: Applicants
for collections for purposes which are local in character and likely to be completed within a short
period of time should apply to Nottinghamshire Police for a 'Certificate of Exemption for a House to
House Collection of a Local or Transitory Nature' (Tel. 01623 483927).
Collections
which are to last for up to 12 months and relate to the majority of the Council's area are dealt with
by the local authority who will consult the Police and, on the grant of a licence provide a certificate
to applicants to apply to Her Majesty's Stationery Office for badges of authority.
Collections
which are to be carried out nationwide can apply to the Secretary of State for an exemption order which
exempts the holder from the need to apply to the Police or the local authority before collecting.
