A major disaster or emergency can come in many forms and may affect the city centre at any time. It is essential that we all plan ahead and minimise the risks to the people and businesses that make up the heart of the city.

In the event of a major incident it may be necessary to evacuate all, or part of, the city centre, or give the public other sorts of information and advice. In preparation for such an event Nottingham City Council Emergency Planning Team has been working closely with Nottinghamshire Police and a range of other emergency responders and representatives from various partner organisations to produce “Nottingham Aware, City Centre Emergency Plan”, which was launched in February 2005 at an event at the Council House.

The purpose of this plan is to increase public protection by providing a framework designed to enable a fast, effective and flexible response to major incidents and emergencies occurring within the city centre.

Are you in the zone?

For businesses in the City a copy of the plan was produced giving basic information and advice about the plan and dividing the city centre into emergency zones which could be used for evacuation and information should an incident occur. Nottingham City Council edits and publishes a twice yearly ‘Nottingham Aware Newsletter’. The newsletter is the main link between the City Centre Emergency Planning team and the Nottingham City Centre community. It will bring you news on the latest emergency planning developments and events. It also provides a means of sharing news, views and ideas from city centre organisations.
