Most of us at some time, have concerns about a child who lives in our community. However, we don't always know what to do, or whether to involve ourselves in someone else's business.
If you have concern that a child is being harmed the worst thing you can do is nothing.
The NCSCB has produced a leaflet which outlines the process of what may happen should you tell Children's Social Care that a child or young person is being abused or is in distress.
We also have posters available for use in community settings which convey the same message. Please contact us to obtain a hard copy.
You may have concerns about a child or young person, but may not be sure that what you have seen or heard constitutes abuse. The NCSCB has produced information on the signs and symptoms of abuse. This may help you decide whether a child or young person is being, or is at risk of being abused or neglected.
If you need further information to help you decide, the DFES has produced "What to Do if You are Worried a Child is Being Abused" which details what to do, what will happen next and what further contribution you may be expected to make.
A summary is also available.
Further information can also be obtained from http://www.dfes.gov.uk
