The development of an integrated transport strategy is essential in maintaining the success of Nottingham. 2004 saw the return of the trams to Nottingham with the launch of Line 1 linking the railway station with the City Centre and through to Hucknall.

The City Council's Public Transport section works in partnership with the city's main public transport operators and passengers.

The Public Transport Team has responsibility for:

  • Development of new bus services
  • Integrated public transport information
  • Electronic information systems
  • Bus stop infrastructure (including shelters)
  • Bus lanes and bus priority measures
  • Joint ticketing including concessionary travel
  • Safer public transport initiatives
  • Research and monitoring
  • Rail development
  • General liaison with public transport operators
  • Public transport policy

The Public Transport Team is part of the Planning and Transportation Service Area which integrates all aspects of planning and transportation.
