The West Area is made up of Aspley, Bilborough and Leen Valley wards and the 2001 census showed the area population to be approximately 40,924. There are around 17,844 households.

The West Area Committee is made up of  the three electoral wards of Aspley, Bilborough and Leen Valley. The three wards have three councillors each in Aspley and Bilborough and two in Leen Valley.
