Delivering Services Together

The Mary Potter Centre in Hyson Green is the city’s second joint service centre, conveniently located on Gregory Boulevard on the site of the former Health Centre and Acorn Day Centre. The Centre is due to be fully operational in June 2008 and will offer local residents access to City Council services, GP practices, Nottingham City Primary Care Trust clinics and Nottingham City Homes services all from under one roof. The building has been designed to be airy, attractive and fully accessible to all the community.  To add a splash of colour, Nottingham City Arts and Neighbourhood Development Company have been commissioned to run an arts project to produce local artwork to exhibit in and around the centre.

Local artists and schools have been involved in the design and creation of arts for the building. Artists Richard Heley and Seema Gill Heley ran drawing workshops at the Islamia School and St Mary’s School. Approx 120 children aged 5 to 12 participated in creating these rich colourful paintings, which are on display in the entrance area.

The facility will provide the community with access to meeting spaces, a quiet room, and a café that will offer centre users with a place to relax and enjoy tasty and healthy snacks and refreshments.

The Mary Potter Centre Joint Service Centre has been a phased construction project.  Primary Care services were the first services to be available from the Centre in April 2007 followed by the Acorn Resource Centre later in the summer.

The Phased Construction Programme

April 2007 Primary Care Services relocated from the former Health Centre into the new Mary Potter Centre.  These services included three GP practices:- Fairfields Practice, High Green Practice, The Forest Practice and Nottingham City Primary Care Trust NHS clinical services.
August 2007 The new Acorn Resource Centre opened in the Mary Potter Centre providing day care and rehabilitation services for people with physical and sensory impairment.
April 2008 Boots Alliance will open a new pharmacy in the Mary Potter Centre.
June 2008 The Mary Potter Centre will be fully operational.  Services from Nottingham City Primary Care Trust, Nottingham City Council, and Nottingham City Homes will relocate into the new facilities.

New services and facilities include:

• ASK HERE Information desk for Nottingham City Homes, Nottingham City Council and Nottingham City Primary Care Trust enquiries
• Cash Payment facilities for Nottingham City Council and Nottingham City Homes
• Surestart Children Centre
• Café
• Crèche
• Meeting Rooms

The centre will also provide office accommodation for local Social Care, Social Work, Neighbourhood Management Team and Community Health Care Teams e.g. health visitors, district nurses, occupational therapists, speech and language therapists.

The Friends of The Mary Potter Centre

We want to involve and engage local people in the development and operation of The Mary Potter Centre.  A community advisory group called the “The Friends of Mary Potter Centre” has been set up to give local people an opportunity to have their say, make comments and provide feedback. What’s next for the city?

The Mary Potter Centre is one of two city Joint Service Centres being developed by the Greater Nottingham LIFT initiative (Local Improvement Finance Trust) as part of a 25 year public/private sector partnership agreement to improve local services. The first Joint Service Centre, Clifton Cornerstone opened in April 2006. Following on from the success of the first two schemes, the Department for Communities and Local Government has shown initial interest in the Council’s proposal for a third ambitious regeneration scheme in Bulwell.

The partnership between the City Council, NHS and greater Nottingham LIFT Co has been fundamental for the success of this vision for delivering services in this joined-up way.
