Nottingham sparkles with Light Night!

Thousands of visitors enjoyed entertainment, live music, and light projections across Nottingham as the city hosted its fifth Light Night.

The unique event took place on Friday 10 February and saw families and people of all ages flock to the city centre to see fantastic performers and artist commissions and to take advantage of many special offers in bars and restaurants.

Council HouseMany activities were unique to Light Night and gave people the chance to explore, experience and see the city in a new perspective. The city was transformed after dark by surreal light installations, street performers and lantern lit rickshaw rides.

Councillor David Trimble, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Tourism, said: "Light Night is about celebrating all that's good about Nottingham, its people, art, cultural offer, bars, restaurants and music.

"The event was a huge success and attracted thousands of people who created a great carnival atmosphere. We Are Nottingham organised a live music programme which also give the night a great mix of variety.Nottingham Castle

"It was pleasing to see families and visitors enjoying themselves as they discovered different attractions across the city that they perhaps never knew existed."

"There was a host of unusual activities and events for everyone to join in. The Nottingham Youth Theatre treated us a celebrity crawl which brought Nottingham's noisy past boisterously back to life; there was a rare chance to see Bromley House Garden illuminated and Nottingham School of Samba entertained us on the city centre streets.

St Mary'sNottingham City Council once again joined up with sponsors We Are Nottingham, the Business Improvement District representing the city's leisure businesses, who provided additional funds and special offers for the night as well as the live music programme.

Sylvia Oates, Chief Executive of We Are Nottingham, said: "It was great to see that, once again, Light Night has attracted so many people of different ages and backgrounds into Nottingham to experience the great things that the city has to offer.

"Our live music programme was a new addition for 2012, with entertainment at over 23 venues. Feedback has been outstanding and I know that everyone was delighted with the turnout. It goes to show that Nottingham is a vibrant, fun and varied city for all. Butterfly

Restaurants, pubs and clubs and associated venues linked to We Are Nottingham gave a range of special offers to Light Night visitors in addition to Nottingham City Transport who gave discounted travel to families.
