Rehearse the plan

A plan is a living document and you only discover the weaknesses in it when you put it into action

Rehearsal helps you confirm that your plan is robust if you ever need to use it.

Rehearsals are also good ways to train the staff with business continuity responsibilities.

Possible ways to rehearse:
Paper-based exercises
Telephone cascading
Full rehearsal or live simulation exercises
Testing essential systems (e.g. power supply)
Real time tests
“No warning” tests

The frequency of exercise will depend on the organisation, but should take into account the rate of organisational changes (e.g. staff turnover).

Ensure any weaknesses identified during the exercise are fed back into the plan, which means going back to step 1 and working through the process again!

Further information on running exercises can be found on the UK Resilience website.

Try taking the 10 minute assessment from the London Prepared website.
