Orangery The Orangery with Cloisters at Newstead Abbey

Are you thinking of a winter wedding?
Would you like your wedding day to be different?

In the winter when the Abbey is closed to the public we can offer you exclusive hire of the Orangery, Cloisters and Becket Room on selected Saturday afternoons from November through to March.

The 15th century windowed Cloisters form a quadrangle around a central courtyard which is laid out as a Mary Garden. The Orangery door opens out into the Cloisters where, in days gone by, monks would walk and perhaps enter the Mary Garden to sit in silent contemplation. Imagine entertaining your guests in this unusual historic and atmospheric setting.

You may use the Cloisters purely as a place to promenade and meet and greet your guests after the civil marriage ceremony has taken place. It would be somewhere comfortable and dry to return to in between having your photographs taken in the beautiful grounds outside. You could have musical entertainment and refreshments served buffet-style by our approved caterers.

The venue can be used in many different ways. Once you have seen the Orangery and Cloisters your imagination might lead you to think of a Medieval, Gothic or Victorian styled wedding. The choice is yours!

The hire cost includes use of the Orangery for the period of your civil marriage, use of the Cloisters, Becket Room and Mary Garden for a total of 3 hours. Registrars fees, musicians, caterers and flowers, other than those already supplied in the Orangery, are not included in the hire price.

Newstead Abbey is a Grade 1 listed building, a museum and country house of international importance. This means that there will be some controls at doors by members of staff to maintain a high security profile.

For more details and an appointment to view the Orangery and Cloisters please telephone 01623 455900.
