Nottingham focuses on Strategic Regeneration

Nottingham City Council is holding its first Strategic Regeneration Conference at The Albert Hall on Thursday 24 April 2008.

The objective of the Conference, ‘Taking the ‘Not’ out of Nottingham’, is to engage Nottingham City Council’s strategic partners in the development and implementation of a number of Strategic Regeneration Framework documents and Neighbourhood Plans for the City.

The Strategic Regeneration Framework documents and Neighbourhood plans will set out the vision, priorities, and objectives of the City Council over the next 10 to 15 years.

The progress that has been made in the city to date in addressing crime, worklessness, educational attainment, health inequalities, vocational training and the creation of safer streets needs to be maintained.

These issues together with the provision of decent, affordable homes, the enhancement and protection of the environment and the building of stronger communities are all inter-linked.

The production of Strategic Regeneration framework documents and Neighbourhood Plans are considered to be key elements of the work required to ensure that Nottingham is a sustainable city into the future .They will ensure that the investment in the social and physical fabric of neighbourhoods by the City and its partners is co-ordinated in accordance with the wishes of the community in an integrated “joined-up” way.

Cllr Alan Clark, Portfolio Holder for Neighbourhood Regeneration at Nottingham City Council said: “This is an exciting time for Nottingham and there are great opportunities for our partners to participate in a process that will lead to the transformation of Nottingham’s neighbourhoods. As a City Council will be ensure that by working with a variety of partners Nottingham remains a city that is environmentally, socially and economically sustainable.”

Speakers at the conference include; Derek Martin, Director of Regeneration, Planning and Transport at Nottingham City Council; John Downie, Community Regeneration Partnership; Alistair McIntosh, Housing Quality Network Chief Executive; Angus Kennedy, Community Regeneration Partnership

Chief Executive; Dave Hughes, English Partnership; Cllr Jon Collins, Nottingham City Council Leader and Adrienne Roberts, Nottingham City Council’s Deputy Chief Executive.
