All Nottingham councillors are set to be allocated £10,000 to spend
on local schemes in their areas.
The new funding arrangements are to
be considered by the Executive Board on May 20th and aim to support the developing role of ward councillors
as local champions. It is part of Nottingham being a national pilot for empowering local communities
to support local residents to have a say and influence what happens in their neighbourhoods.
Each
of the City Council’s 55 councillors will decide how best to spend their share of the £550,000 fund
in response to the need of local communities. It can be used to support a range of local projects and
initiatives, from environmental schemes, planting, litter picks, or providing grants to local groups
or organisation to run local activities, such as after school projects, activities for young people,
and contributing towards parks and opens spaces or local community events.
Councillor
Jane Urquhart, Portfolio Holder for Area Working, said: This money will help ward members to work with
the communities and residents they serve, to help solve small local issues and to involve local communities
in how local services within the city are shaped and delivered.
