Nottingham City Council staff will be welcoming
students to Nottingham
this week by providing them the low down on council services.
Nottingham is a popular choice for students – it has been estimated
that around 45,000 students live in the city. This time of year is special for 16,000 of them – the
new student intake for this year is arriving in the city now.
The
freshers will be finding out about how great Nottingham is and will be given a friendly welcome by Nottingham
City Council staff at the Freshers’ Fairs. The new students at both the University of Nottingham and
Nottingham Trent University will be given recycled cotton bags stuffed full of information that includes
a directory of useful Council services.
Students
will be encouraged to treat Nottingham as their home – this means keeping it clean and tidy and getting
on with the neighbours.
Cllr Katrina Bull, Portfolio
Holder for Environment and Climate Change at Nottingham City Council, said:”Nottingham City Council
welcomes our new city residents. This is a great city and we are proud that so many young people choose
Nottingham as their place of study every year. We are working with both universities, community groups,
the police and landlords to make sure that students know about all the things they can do to become
good neighbours and the city as a whole can benefit from the boost the student population brings to
the city and the local economy.”
Nottingham City
Council will have a large presence at both Freshers’ Fairs, with staff offering advice about recycling,
waste management, trading standards, sports and leisure activities, public health issues, libraries,
elections and much more.
The Freshers’ Fairs at the
University of Nottingham run from Tuesday September 23 until Thursday September 25 at the Nightingale
Field.
The Nottingham Trent University Freshers’
Fairs are held on October 7 at the Clifton campus and on October 9 at the City Centre campus. Both fairs
are in the Student Union buildings.
