Nottingham City Council launches birth registration service at Sure Start Childrens Centres
Nottingham City Council’s Registration Service is implementing a programme to bring
Registration closer to the community.
In January 2008 a full time service to
register births and deaths was launched at
both City Hospital and Queens Medical Centre which has proved very successful.
Building
on this success, the team are launching a service in partnership with the leading charity, NCH Action
for Children to register births at Sure Start Children’s Centres in Aspley and Broxtowe. This service
will start on 8th September and parents can register their babies on an informal drop in basis while
accessing other family support services at both centres. It is planned to extend the service to Clifton
Sure Start Children’s Centre shortly afterwards.
Councillor
Graham Chapman, Deputy Leader of Nottingham City Council, said: "This is a simple and sensible
way of making it easier for people to register births, at the places they are already going to instead
of having to make special journeys at a time when it may be difficult to do so. It's another example
of us trying to make our services easy to access at a community level."
Lucy
Lee, Superintendent Registrar agrees and added: "This is a very exciting progression for the Nottingham
City Registration Service and will benefit many new parents by providing a ‘one stop shop’ service to
help ease the burden on new parents."
