Nottingham City Council is trialling a new mobile
CCTV car across
the city with a view to using it as part of transport management system.
The
purpose of the week’s trial is to ascertain if this type of equipment can be integrated into Nottingham
City Councils digital recording system. Therefore, the Authority will be testing the camera’s
functionality, in certain situations, such as weather conditions and night time recording.
The
proposed test will look at all types of contravention ranging from bus lanes through to parking on school
keep clear markings, bus stops and pedestrian crossings for example and other moving contraventions
such as banned turns such as no right turn and prescribed movements such as left turn only and no entry’s.
Any contravention recorded by the mobile system
would only result in the issuing of a warning notice. This notice will clearly state that there
is no fine payable at that time and that the recording was of an alleged contravention.
The
car arrived in Nottingham on June 16 for half a day, in order for the operators to get familiar with
the equipment. The car will then be travelling around the city from June 23 until June 27 and
on Wednesday 25 June the car will also be viewed by the Respect for Transport partnership.
Cllr
Jane Urquhart, Portfolio Holder for Transport and Area Working at Nottingham City Council, said: “We
are trialling the mobile CCTV car to determine whether it will be effective in our highway’s CCTV system
without the need of paying installation costs. We also hope the car will help facilitate the punctuality and reliability of bus services throughout
the City thus encouraging more people to use public transport.”
