There will be some delays to traffic on the A52 on Thursday and Friday
this week as Nottingham City Council removes a dangerous beech tree in Wollaton alongside the A52.
Traffic
lights will manage traffic on Derby Road following peak hours from 9.30am on 13th and 14th November
whilst the tree is removed from the grassed area bordering Adams Hill, close to the QMC roundabout.
As part of a routine inspection, a fungus which
decays and weakens the tree was spotted at the base of the trunk and in the grass next to the tree. This is the worst case of such a decay fungus of beech in Nottingham and infected trees are liable to
be uprooted or broken by wind as deeper roots may be extensively decayed. Assessments of the tree by
the City Council have concluded that if it collapsed, it would fall onto the busy A52.
Paul
Fountain, Team Leader in Tree Services at Nottingham City Council, said: When we take such decisions
it is with reluctance, but we have to always be mindful of the danger a tree may pose to pedestrians
as well as traffic. The tree is in a conservation area and normally we would go through a longer process
of notification, but we are particularly concerned about this tree so are acting at the earliest opportunity
We
apologise for any inconvenience these works may cause and reassure people that we will do all we can
to keep disruption to a minimum.
