Top Valley to get top improvements
After widespread consultation with local residents, the Top Valley area is set to be transformed
by new road safety and cycling features from Monday January 28. Residents
were engaged through the Your Choice Your Voice event and a presentation at the local Tenants and Residents
Association meeting. Consultation leaflets were also delivered to more than 1,000 homes in the area.
Nottingham City Council is ready to begin the scheme, which has been welcomed by local
Councillors, Neighbourhood Management and the wider community. Councillor
Parbutt, Portfolio Holder for Transport, Economic Development and Skills said “I am pleased that we
were able to consult with residents about how best to improve the area they live in, take their views
on board and go ahead with the scheme.” The scheme will begin on Monday
January 28 for 10 weeks, and will be carried out in two phases. Phase
One will create a raised zebra crossing on Top Valley Way, a popular crossing point for pedestrians,
and a further zebra crossing with speed cushions on Top Valley Drive to slow down vehicles and improve
pedestrian safety. Pavement and cycling improvements will also be carried
out on Top Valley Way from Hucknall Road to the raised zebra crossing. While
the improvements on Top Valley Way are being carried out, the carriageways will be narrowed but two-way
traffic will be maintained throughout. When the new crossing is installed
on Top Valley Drive two-way traffic lights will need to be used at certain times so that work can be
carried out safely. The second phase of the works will see the removal
of the old and unpopular underground subways at the Top Valley Way Island and area landscaping, as well
as the installation of a zebra crossing on Ridge Way with speed cushions.
