Major planning and resurfacing improvements will be carried out on
Beeston Road and University Boulevard starting on Sunday March 16 for one month.
An
average of over 42,000 vehicles travel along Beeston Road and University Boulevard, by the Nottingham
Tennis Centre and The University of Nottingham, each day.
This
high volume of traffic has taken its toll on the road surface and so Nottingham City Council is investing
£380,000 of Central Government funding to plane off the old uneven road surface between the Dunkirk
Roundabout and the Queen’s Road Island and replace it with a smooth new surface.
The
work starts on Sunday March 16 and will be carried out either during off-peak hours on weekdays (which
is around 9.30am until 3.30pm), on Sundays or at night, when traffic is much lighter.
The
first part will take place between Sunday 16 and Friday 21 March and involves planning and resurfacing
Beeston Road between Dunkirk Roundabout and East Drive.
On-
street parking will be suspended parking on this section of Beeston Road during the above dates so that
the planning and resurfacing vehicles can move along the road. Residents who would usually park their
car on this section of Beeston Road are politely asked to make alternative arrangements during this
time.
There will be very limited access to / from
the university via East Drive during the above dates, but the works have been carefully planned to coincide
with the university’s holiday period and so less traffic should need to access the site via this entrance.
The
next stage of the works will take place on Tuesday 25th March for four days and be concentrated around
the Queen’s Road Island and along University Boulevard from the island to the paddling pool puffin crossing.
The
above works will take place during evenings only from around 6.00pm, after the rush hour period, up
to approximately 11.00pm, when any noisy works will be stopped. This will involve lane closures and
temporary traffic control, such as; Stop and Go boards on Queen’s Road, the Queen’s Road Island and
the above section of University Boulevard.
During
the above dates and times we will need to stop traffic leaving Lower Road from the exit onto the Queen’s
Road Island. Residents are politely asked to use Albert Road, Broadgate and University Boulevard to
leave the area.
The last part of the scheme will
take place from 31st March until 11th April and will be restricted to night time working between 6.30pm
each weekday evening until the early hours of each weekday morning. Lane closures will be used on the
above dates and times on University Boulevard between the paddling pool puffin crossing the vehicle
exit of the Nottingham Tennis Centre.
