Help us get rid of the rogues

Nottingham City residents are being urged to contact Trading Standards if they suspect potential rogue traders are operating in their area.

Nottingham City Trading Standards work together with Nottingham County Trading Standards, Nottinghamshire Police and other partners to tackle doorstep crime through targeted work, including educating people on how they can protect themselves.

In May and June, leaflets containing information about doorstep sellers and details of ‘Buy With Confidence’, the local approved trader scheme, will be distributed in the City’s hotspots to help raise public awareness.

Caraline Ryan, Head of Public Protection said: "Some of the businesses which offer services door-to-door are rogue traders. Trading Standards wants to know about them. Information provided by the public is often key in helping to crack down on criminals.

"We will investigate whether companies claiming to be authentic are ordinary local businesses; or if they are rogue traders currently targeting this area. Where we find businesses breaking consumer protection laws or committing fraud, we will take enforcement action."

Councillor Eunice Campbell, Nottingham City Council Portfolio Holder for Human Resources, Customer Services and Consultation, said: "Targeted enforcement work is an effective approach to tackling crime in Nottingham City and shows the Council’s commitment to ridding Nottingham of doorstep criminals, reducing crime and making communities safer places to live."

If you have been approached by a doorstep seller offering to do work on your house or garden, let Trading Standards know by calling Consumer Direct on 08454 040506.

Trading standards will also investigate whether companies who deliver leaflets offering property maintenance or gardening across Nottingham City are genuine. Residents can send any leaflets they receive to Trading Standards, 27 Mansfield Road Nottingham NG1 3FB.

Buy with Confidence is a local approved trader scheme run by Trading Standards. Find a trader by calling Consumer Direct on 08454 040506 or on the website www.buywithconfidence.co.uk
