Latest figures published by Nottingham Crime and Drugs Partnership show a 28%* reduction in crime in the city since 2003/04 - exceeding targets. The achievement has been welcomed by City Council Leader, Councillor Jon Collins.
He said: “It’s tremendous that we have not only met but exceeded our crime reduction target over the past five years. Achieving a 28% reduction against a tough target of 26% in the ten key crimes that most affect communities means, above all else, that fewer people are having their lives blighted by crime in our neighbourhoods. It’s one of the things that people tell us matters most to them, so I’m delighted that the efforts we are collectively making are paying off.”
The CDP's figures also show that crime in the ten key crimes fell by over 13% in the last year.
Nottinghamshire Police's newly-published figures show that between 1st April 2007 and 31st March 2008, total crime in the city fell by nearly 10%**. Significant reductions have been seen in most categories of crime.
- Burglary offences have fallen by 15%
- Violent crime is down by 9%
- Robbery is down by over 20%
- Theft and handling has fallen by 7%
- Theft from a motor vehicle is down by 16%
Councillor Collins added: “It shows what can be achieved when partners, determined to improve things for our residents, work together with communities. As neighbourhood policing is rolled out across the city and we continue to focus our combined efforts on driving crime down, I’m optimistic that we can build on this great achievement.”
