An open day recently marked the completion of extensive works to extend, refurbish
and upgrade Wollaton Library.
Significant investment in the existing building
has increased the size of the library by extending it to the rear whilst providing access to the remaining
courtyard area which previously has not been used.
Research into current usage
and feedback from the local community and staff has influenced the library’s design. Improvements
include a larger children’s library, provision of toilet facilities and a meeting room.
During
the construction period, local people have accessed library services from the local scout hut opposite
the library and the mobile library nearby.
Jane Booker, Library Manager
said: “We’ve received overwhelming support throughout the renovations and would like to thank the public
for their patience and the Scout Hut and Grangewood Methodist Church who allowed us to continue to provide
a service to the community, if somewhat limited.”
Councillor Dave Trimble,
Portfolio Holder for Communities, Culture and Leisure added: “Libraries are a hugely important part
of any community and we welcome this much needed investment. Wollaton Library is Nottingham’s busiest
community library and we hope that the improvements have created a modern, user-friendly and welcoming
environment that the community will be able to enjoy for many more years to come.”
